Temple University is a comprehensive public research university with more than 34,000 students and 17 schools and colleges for such fields of study as law, medicine, pharmacy, podiatry, dentistry and health sciences. It offers degree programs in two associate degree areas, 130 bachelors degree areas, 110 masters degree areas, 50 doctoral degree areas and five first professional areas. The university was founded in 1884 and is located in Philadelphia, Pa., though it operates additional campuses in Ambler, Elkins Park, Harrisburg and Fort Washington, Pa. It is the 28th-largest university in the United States and the sixth-largest provider of professional education in the country. Temple also offers NCAA-affiliated athletic programs including basketball, football, baseball, tennis, lacrosse and softball.
