Littler is dedicated to being the world leader in employment law. In 1942, Robert Littler, the Pacific Coast director of the War Labor Board, and Thomas Coakley, a California deputy and attorney general, resigned their positions to form the first law firm in the San Francisco Bay Area to specialize exclusively in representing employers in labor law. The firm successfully represented businesses faced with government takeover before the War Labor Board and Salary Stabilization Commission. Arthur Mendelson joined the Firm in 1944.
