The Town Manager Office is administered by the government of the Town of Essex in Vermont. The office plans, organizes, coordinates and administers the daily functions of Essex municipal government. It is responsible to hire and dismiss staff. The Town of Essex operates a community development department that is responsible for various planning and zoning issues and offers GIS computer mapping services. It also operates a finance department that provides record keeping, accounts payable and receivable, and tax, water and sewer billing solutions. The town loans books, periodicals, cassettes, videos, puzzles and tape kits through its library department. Additionally, it maintains police, real estate appraisal, public works, and parks and recreation departments.
