s a local congregation we've not been around very long--about 40 years--so most folks in our church did not grow up as "Evangelical Friends." Hanover Friends is a gathering of Christians who have come from a variety of denominational backgrounds and new believers who met Christ through our ministries who get together to worship and grow in their faith, as well as sincere seekers who are just investigating the claims of Jesus and seeing for themselves what "church" is all about. While we don't make a big deal out of denominational labels, Hanover Friends is a part of a larger denomination known as: The Evangelical Friends Church - Eastern Region. ( www.efcer.org ) Our heritage is a strong and proud one. The Evangelical Friends Church began way back in the 1600's, when a man named George Fox broke away from the Church of England to begin a group of zealous believers who later became known as "Quakers." Evangelical Friends, which is the denomination we belong to, find our roots from these early Quakers and share with them a passion for seeing people's lives changed by the transforming power of Jesus Christ. Having said that, we are also vastly different from what most people think of when they hear the word "Quaker." We don't look like the man on the oat box! We believe and teach the Bible and seek to base all our doctrines on the authority of the scripture. Some churches who use the name "Friends" or "Quaker" have gotten far away from that standard, but we as Evangelical Friends hold fast to God's eternal Word.s important as it is for a church to know where they have come from, I think it is more important to know where we're going! We want our church to be a place where those who worship find freedom in their expression of devotion to God, powerful inspiration and insight from God's Word and support from one another as we pray for each other and share our burdens. Most of all, we want to share the love of Christ with our community and the world and see people liberated from the burden of sin. That goal is summed up in our mission statement: "To live the new life we have in Christ and help others find it!"o help this mission, we strive to do everything we can to have God-honoring quality ministries and services that meet the needs of families in our area and reach out around the world. We'd love to have you come and be a part of the exciting things that God has in store for Hanover Evangelical Friends Church!
