Clallam County Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining roads and drainage, open in all types of weather conditions and operating at an efficient level of service. It builds and maintains the county's motorized and nonmotorized transportation system. The department works with the Peninsula Regional Transportation Planning Organization to ensure that the county's road and trail system is well planned and that the system provides efficient connections to other transportation providers. It spends more than $4 million every year on road construction and maintenance. The department undertakes major road reconstruction through private contractors with its engineering staff providing the design, contract writing and inspection services. It also offers rainwater management and installation of drywells, detention ponds and underground storage tanks.
