Established in 1886, the Seattle Police Department is one of the most famous police agencies in the United States. Its traffic unit prevents vehicle collisions, investigates road accidents and responds to high-priority patrol calls. The department s harbor patrol unit investigates water-related accidents and conducts dive searches. Its communication center handles all calls for police, fire and medical emergencies within the city. The Seattle Police Department is certified by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
